Our wants, our needs, our hopes, our dreams.
Do you ever catch yourself waiting for the silence to break, for the bell to ring, for the sounds of the ticking to subside? Then suddenly the bell rings, the silence is filled with noise, the ticking looses its steady beat and finds itself making melodies that not even the deaf would enjoy. You realize then that the waiting wasn't so bad after all. The silence was a gift and the ticking was just the beat of your heart only promoting your mind to be steady and collected.
It's interesting how we as humans are continuously wanting something more. Some strive for technological materials, others financial stability, others a new adventure to an exotic place in the world yet left undiscovered. I find myself in the latter of the groups. Amongst the noise or the silence, this passion for something in the future rarely ceases. However, when the day comes that you realize you're content with the way things are at the exact moment in this exact instant, the wants that we previously labeled as "needs," prove to be only luxuries that would only make life a bit more comfortable.
How about living uncomfortably. Imagine the very thing you want the most, and telling yourself, "okay, Brittany, you can't have it." Maybe this is a bad idea to develop upon, I'm curious as to the thoughts of others. For me, imagining my list of a few things I feel I need, and giving myself this sentence that the possibility is none, makes existence a bit different. We suddenly find ourselves working to be happy with what we have, thankful for where we are, praising God for who we are given. The desires escape the trenches of our cranial anatomy and our minds are free to accept what we have. Upon this acceptance our list of "needs" turns into our list of "luxuries" as we realize that God provides us with exactly what we need to succeed at being the people he wants us to be.
Maybe next time I find something "new" I want, or a new place I want to visit, I'll consider where God needs me to be. In accordance with that, I may find that the necessities are provided along with many luxuries. We are spoiled beings. God is good.

"when God is all you have left... you realize... He is all you need!"
